homage to the heir of haute couture

Last week Hilary Alexander wrote an dazzlingly beautiful review of Karl Lagerfeld’s SS11 show in Paris. She touches upon the Lagerfeld’s accuracy and delicacy to which his fleeting thoughts conjure into a spellbinding collection and show.

Now in his 70’s, KL joined the house of Chanel in 1983. 28 years and 56 couture collections later, 66 looks were strutted down the runway. The show opened with the aristocratic Scottish model, Stella Tennant (40 and a mother of four). Wearing a short Chanel jacket with just a whisper of 'tailoring', HA describes her as shwoing the new silhouette. Detailed with gossamer embroidery, the jacket is teamed with a short skirt over gleaming, wet-look, crystal leggings, ruffled-up and zipped at the ankles.

It sets the fairytale mood of the entire show. Tweeds twinkle with crystals, collars and cuffs gleam with beads and sequins. Occasional flashes of jet-black, tangerine and a deep azure blue punctuate the dreamy palette of blush-pinks, ivory and a shadowy-grey. The use of feathers, mixed with pearls and crystals, is echoed in the web-like edges of the layered tulle ballgowns.

inspired by ...

as i type I'm watching LEON ... its not the twisted perverted story line that I am scared is going to end up with Natalie Portmans character Matilda actually having sex with the man she loves Leon, but the realisation that Damir Domas collection may have taken a little inspiration from him.

creating a spark

I've seen Tyrone LeBon's work a few times and even attended his monthly film showings (DoBeDo) so I'm already familiar with his raw talent and unique style. When I seen this video on Topshop.com this morning I was extremely excited. Its beautiful pale hues, sun flares, eccentric soundtrack and unprocessed editing, is very different to Topshops usual style, but for me screams perfection.

More please!

i was perfect

Last night left me slightly mystified by the film, Black Swan, I came out of the cinema unsure if I was wowed by Natalie Portmans performance, I was overly attracted to Mila Kunis’ character, Lily or if all the hype and critics reviews had over excelled my expectations for the 5 times Oscar nominated film.Having pirouetted around my flat for at least 30 mins after I got back, I woke this morning still indecisive and wanting to be a ballet dancer, which made me mini review the film again. I think I actually loved it, I can’t quite explain why, but having discussed my highlights with a friend at work this morning, it made me realise that it’s a very deep and clever film. It will be a very iconic in the history of film. Others may disagree but PAH who cares.

the sun has got his hat on ... his rain hat

There is something that I find extremely satisfying about sunglasses and clear lenses in general. As probably quoted by some fashionista once 'Face Art'! Here are the newest additions to my accessory draw:

A couple of weeks back, the boyf and I headed down to Surrey for a weekend away, staying in the De Vere Horsely Park. Having paid a cracking £10 per person per night on some wako deal, the room, gardens and hotel were pretty ace despite the torrential rain and gym/spa being closed due to refurbishment! blar blar blar ...

When perusing the local shops, the boyf bought me these bad boys (to balance out what we would have normally spent of the room - obvs) from Sunglasses Hut (a shop I usually associate with extremely overpriced plain jane, mum wearing, main line gegs.

FACT: A Ray Ban will always stand the test of time and take anything/one from PAH to UBER COOL

Next up, these Illesteva beauties bought from LN-CC, delivered by Father Christmas (my dad) were nicely wrapped under the tree, for me to prance around in on x-mas day and enjoy this nice treat when driving in the sunny snow.

FACT: Black goes with everything ... even blue (debatable?)!

Finally for that geek chic we all love to attempt to pull off. Prism has an amazing range of clear lenses, sold and bought from LN-CC.

FACT: Everyone looks like a dochue in a clear lense ... If you cant beat them ... join them!

Newbies aside, the oldies will also be making as much of an appearance. Sunglasses are for life. Not just for the summer!

material girl

Material Girl, the clothing line of Queen Madonna and Lady Lourdes, has a new face ... Miss Kelly Osbourne. Osbourne will replace Taylor Momsen as the IT face for 2011. I'm thinking young Lady Lourdes is going to take her inspiration from Kelly, and turn her ghetto goth in to prim chic?

edited

Topshop have created a new concept space, rightly named edited. Its clean white walls and simple sashay is situated at 286 Regent Street.

Picked out by Head of Design, Jacqui Markham, it covers a range of pieces perfect for any wardrobe. Statement peices, boutique style, everyday basics and seasonal must-haves.

power women

Saturday, 22nd January, 12PM Liverpool kicked off against Wolves and MISS Sian Massey stood on the sidelines as the first ever lines woman. Wolves were furious when Massey refused to rule Raul Meireles offside before he set up Liverpool’s first goal. The replay showed that she made the correct decision, and proved girls, can do anything that boys can do but clearly better.

To celebrate girl power, I raise my manicured hand and salute the most iconic!

bright young things

This weekend I swopped into Selfrdiges on my 'day date' with the boyf. Exposing the talents of what they call the 'bright young things', Selfridges have given the gift of a 'window to the world' for the artist to express their talents.

To be viewed by over 1 million people each week (for the 8 weeks the project is running)  it is guareented to catapult them into the mainstream!

However, it's not the first time that I have been introduced to some of their collections.

In 2009/10 the boyf worked on project called 'the new faces of menswear', snapping portraits of a few of these designers and creating what seems to have been their starting platform.

Thanks for the preview Selfrdiges, but these guys are already old school!

graduating with honours

Starting with a film on a Friday is how most of my weekends kick off (this, a gin and maybe a takeaway is in fact how most of my nights at 9pm kick off!) Yes I am 24 and yes maybe a little old before my time but since lovefilm entered my life (for the second time), I have been obsessed with watching as many new films as possible. Encouraged by a colleague who set himself the task of watching 50 film in 20 days.

So with his magic 200 must see movies and several discussion around me not seeing all the classics (after studying film for 3 years at uni), back to the future, Star wars and a like ... I have my list!

Friday I watched the slightly quirky but not so great Alice in Wonderland. The amazing Scottish rabbit, shisha smoking caterpillar and cheshire cat smashed it! Alice, Twiddle Dumb and Dee, PAH! And totally in the wrong, but in all the right ways, I found Johnny Depp super attractive. But fitties aside, I just could not get in to it.

Last night, well firstly I have to thanks to my friend Cath for suggesting it as I loved everything about The Graduate!!!
Yum it was beautiful. It is a must see on everyone's list. From how its shot, to a very handsomely young Dustman Hoffman, the music the colours, everything takes you on this sexual journey to a beautiful ending.

So here's to you Mrs Robinson ...

craving coco

Chanel, a luxuriously, brilliant, beautiful brand, and most, sadly will never own a piece of its history.
Since my first issue of Vogue was purchased I think I’ve craved this simple black, page 10 brand. It is, hands down, my favourite. Karl, adverts, scents, celebrity endorsements, yum ... this is what can only be described as true fashion love!
The relationship is questioned though when, so far in the 24 years of my life I’ve only ever bought 2 measly nail varnishes and been given Chanel perfume, every Christmas, birthday, parents airport dash... And, until some mega promotion, freebie or gift upgrade, this is sadly all FOR NOW!
Having watched the exceptionally inspiring Coco Chanel and Coco and Igor, 2011 will see me crumble and spend extortionate amounts on a sewing machine, a classic, another cute varnish or French lessons!
But for now my childhood cravings continue ...

got to love the love from LOVE

LOVE magazine like to exhibit their risqué covers of high end drama. Slightly toned down (although controversial), this edition – This is Hardcore, is a far cry from a naked Beth Ditto and others who have graced the cover. In a sexed up boy meets girl shoot, moss smooches with transgender model Lea T.

Topshop SS 11

Ok, so here goes with what is really my first post, brace yourselves this may be bad. I’m not waiting another minute though … I have a lot on this mini chest of mine …
It’s that time of year again when the spring is, as they say, in sight (amazing those look into the future specs, as I type its well rainy) sales are coming to a close (I miserably didn’t buy anything and have failed myself as a savvy shopper), the boyf is heading out to Paris for Fashion Week (boo hisss  boo), and my second love, Topshop is bringing out their behind the scenes video for SS11 collection. Think 70’s acid brights, fringing, folky, hill billy, people loving mash up and you’ve pretty much got it sewn up in a patch work pinafore.

Take a peak here and wait for the mailer to drop announcing the new season is live.

oh heck!

Welcome to what seems to be my very own wishlist, wahhhaaas, wants and whims. I’m going to look at this more of a diary of my day to day likes, dislikes and pahs.
Having moved to London well over 3 years ago, I feel that I’ve just woken up and figured out that in all that time, I seem to have lost all passion for the things that have ever been important to me, I've admired, or have inspired me. That’s sounds a little drastic, it maybe is, but I’m trying to regain some of that gumption that some maybe would say is me and my ever changing unique personality.
I don’t expect this to be followed religiously, as I do to some of my fave bloggers (fashion toast, sea of shoes, Inside Out) and I’m not no aspiring style icon, fashion guru or knowledge know it all, but if you have found me out there in the mass world that is the internet, then please, do enjoy.
