Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

H&M have announced that its latest designer collaboration will be with Maison Martin Margiela for autumn/winter 2012.Following up the success of this year’s popular Marni and Versace collaborations, the high street store has opted for a more avant-garde fashion house with Maison Martin Margiela.

Founded by Belgian Martin Margiela in 1988, the elusive designer (he’s never granted an interview or consented to be photographed) has been called ‘fashion’s J.D Salinger’, and his clothes have been equally thought-provoking. With an aim to “derail classic notions of fashion”, past collections have been about creating new shapes and volumes, as well as utilising forgotten fabrics like vintage home furnishings.

Although Margiela stepped down from the label in 2009, the fashion house’s creative vision has been more commercially-minded but still no less challenging. Due to go into 230 stores worldwide and online on November 15, the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection will feature clothing and accessories for both women and men, and is set to be a bit of an event promises H&M’s creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch:

“Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades. I am so excited by this radical collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela," she said.

Adding, "This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment.”
